Vascular Services

The vascular services at Virtua Surgical Group include the diagnosis and treatment of abdominal aortic aneurysms, peripheral vascular disease including claudication, diagnosis and treatment of carotid artery disease, wound care, laser and varicose vein care.  We have a certified vascular laboratory that can aid in the diagnosis and treatment of peripheral vascular disease as well as varicose vein and venous disease.


 

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm
The aorta is the largest artery in the body. It is normally very elastic. However as we age and due to certain medical conditions the wall of the aorta can weaken. The weakening causes the wall to stretch and bulge..

Carotid Artery Disease
The carotid arteries are two blood vessels in the front of the neck that help to supply blood to the brain. The blood provides oxygen and nutrients to the brain. If the carotid arteries become diseased, narrowed (also known as stenotic) or blocked an embolic stroke can occur.

Varicose Veins/Venous Insufficiency
Etiology or cause:  varicose veins are typically caused by problems with valves that are in veins.  The vein valves can become incompetent from increased pressure causing the veins to stretch and dilate and to become bulging and then it is termed a “varicose vein”.

Spider Veins
Spider veins are tiny blue or red veins which are typically a cosmetic problem.  These do not cause symptoms or any health problems.  Spider veins can be treated with sclerotherapy or laser.  Sclerotherapy involves injecting an irritating material into the vein with a small needle.
